Past Mission - South Africa 2006
The main objective of the South Africa Mission 2006 was to develop awareness among youth about the situation of the HIV and AIDS crisis. This mission focused on children and youth between the ages of 3 to 21.During our time in South Africa, we were able to impact the lives of over 350 youth under the age of 21, allowing each child to live their lives to the fulles by: educating others about HIV and AIDS in order to eliminate myths, reinforce facts, and clarify local rumours; providing over 200 children with necessary art supplies such as pencil crayons, sharpeners, pens and notebooks; distributing 500 condoms throughout the country with instructions explaining proper procedures for usel supplying over 19,000 tablets of herbal nutritional supplements; donating support equipment to each community impacted after use in the sports component of each workshop; and by befriening and providing encouragement and moral support to the children and youth.
The South Africa 2006 Mission has also allowed us to bring our story back to local schools, thereby enabling us to continue to crate awareness among youth of all ages. We have since spoken to the Canadians through televised specials and radio broadcasting about our personal stories, differences in lifestyle, and the culture shock when were in South Africa.
